Best Care Always

The Best Care…Always! (BCA) campaign supports South(ern) African healthcare organisations as they implement specific, internationally recognised, evidence-based interventions that enhance patient safety and constitute current best practice in hospital care.

BCA is inclusive and enrols hospitals from both private and public sectors. There is no fee to join. Participating hospitals should be willing to make evidence-based changes at a faster pace, share ideas with others, measure results and report on progress.

They are led by a representative national task team drawn from hospital groups, national and provincial government, and funders. A panel of academic and clinical experts, including members of clinical leadership organisations, serves in an overall advisory capacity.

Best Care Always National Hospital NetworkBest Care…Always has been designed to support the efforts of hospitals to reduce patient morbidity and mortality caused by hospital-acquired infections, by sharing best practices around the measurement and implementation of relatively simple quality improvement practices. The following five interventions were identified and aligned to International Practice: Antibiotic stewardship, CAUTI (Catheter-associated UTI), CLABSI (Central Line-associated bloodstream infection), SSI (Surgical site infection), and VAP (Ventilator-associated pneumonia.

NHN supports this campaign by South African health providers to ensure improvement in care and application of best practice and patient safety.
